nice one :)

Now we can comment each movie in its own place, so I'm starting.

Obviously, I enjoyed the movie. How could I not if there play Al Pacino? I haven't expected the movie's so funny. Best part for me was "I like being kissed when I'm fuc*ed" or sth like that.

There was sth strange thing in ending of movie. Right, they were criminals, but I expected them to escape. Dunno why, but I was really waiting for that. It might be because of mentioned stockholm syndrome, but I wasn't the one who they kidnapped so that's not the explanation ;)

I really like new website! ^^ There are many possibilities! It looks more professional ;) Definitely better than older! (little digression :P)

About movie...
I don't like Al Pacino. It will never change I suppose.
I don't like last 62,5 min :P It was boring!
I like the most the same part which Kamil.
I really like the ending :P
All in all it was good. I haven't expected that. Congratulations Cottage you've surprised me ;)
Kamil, could you explain "mentioned stockholm syndrome"? I don't understand.

#21, by Hania, on 05 September 2011, 10:27 pm

Great choice! "Birdy" is one from my 'to watch' list (:
One question: is it a good idea to read the book before watching it?

#22, by Cottage, on 06 September 2011, 7:58 am

a hard choice to make:/ really don't know.. i've read the book and it's in a way different as it has long passages of what's going on in birdy's head.. as far as i remember, the film doesn't seem to gain access there..

#23, by Morek, on 07 September 2011, 8:09 pm

haven't seen this movie for a long time. I hope it will make an impression on me as it did for the first time.

#24, by xnefrex, on 26 September 2011, 12:53 am

Already seen this one :) quite a good movie, though I don't like films that are based on Stephen King's novels, but well, it's always better to read a book, right? :) But I will have a chance to watch it again and jog my memory :P so I'm really glad you have chosen this film.

- J. Neu(B)rosis, by the way, we need to have a talk, Wojtek told me to ask you one question.. ;) cheers!

'apt pupil' seems somewhat nazi staff but it's also a warning: be careful and don't get taken in by any ideologies.. this aspect makes the film pretty interesting..
wondering what wojtek's wondering about..;)

#26, by xnefrex, on 28 September 2011, 10:51 pm

I agree :)

I will let you know as soon as we get some time to talk (perhaps during one of those "long lunch breaks"... or on the 6th of October.. ;))

trying to figure out what u neu(b)rosis mean by 'scott or steve?' i've just come across sth that's perhaps getting me closer to the answer..
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/11688-the-wakea-grave-is-a-grim-horse/
'purify' is developing slowly..:)

#28, by xnefrex, on 03 October 2011, 9:29 pm

haha :D I just know that Steve Von Till recorded some solo albums (that are really good, by the way), though I don't know anything about Scott Kelly, I'm not sure either what Wojtek exactly meant... :) seems like I need to have a talk with him once again :D

#29, by xnefrex, on 25 October 2011, 8:05 pm

I have never seen this movie, but I'm glad you've chosen it anyway since its plot seems to be pretty interesting and now there is a chance you might think about the next movie that I'd like to recommend, with a pretty similar plot, by the way. Have you seen 'In The Name Of The Father'? Well, I think it would be nice to show it to the other members of our little club :) But, it's up to you! Also, I have another one that might be interesting as well... :)

#30, by Cottage, on 27 October 2011, 11:34 am

congrats on your anticipation of what might be on next in ccc..:) i've been thinking about 'in the name of the father' as it's a truly powerful cinematic experience and it's one of those films that change you and your seeing and understanding of the world.. both films show the irish struggling for their independence from the crown but i think the main focus differs a bit.. i don't want to reveal what i mean now since i'm going to do it when the time to see the sheridan movie comes..
btw, would you find time to give a talk next week? i've got a couple of things i'd like you to think about and then say what conclusions you've reached..:)
ah, what's the movie on your mind?

#31, by xnefrex, on 27 October 2011, 1:12 pm

haha! :D sure I would, I had a chance to give a talk last year, so I already know how it is, so I won't be so stressed out :) (not that I was last time... ;)) so, I'm waiting for your clues and tips and I'll make something up. Well, since Daniel Day-Lewis is my favourite actor and I'm in love with him (oh, that platonic love! :D) I'd like to recommend 'My Left Foot' that tells the story of an Irish painter, Christy Brown. Seen it? Also, the next one that is a good one is 'There Will Be Blood', but I think it'd be too hard to understand and some people could find it boring...

#32, by Cottage, on 28 October 2011, 10:28 am

if people checked the ethymology, they all'd know that daniel means quality..:]
well, i think a few things should be talked about before the movie's screened.. what follows will be the result of self-brainstorm, which somehow will be joycean-like in style..:) here we go then: the ira, british dominance, ireland, northern ireland, catholics vs protestants, sinn fein, struggle for freedom, negotiations or uprising?, can terror attacks be justified?, why it's worth/not worth fighting for freedom at any cost, difference (if any) between freedom and independence, ideologies - do they poison and are they ophium for mankind?, why can't the crown give up on northern ireland?
these are the things that come to me on this occasion..
as for your recommendations, somehow i knew you'd come up with 'my left foot' here..:) i've seen 'there will be blood' as well.. in the latter, the screen's just too small for daniel and the negative energy radiates in tidal waves from the character played by him.. really powerful.. wonder if you've seen one of my favourite day-lewis's roles that's definitely newland archer in 'the age of innocence'.. the film also happens to be one of the best (if not the best) book adaptations i've come across.. read it once years ago and really enjoyed it.. it's a rare situation when it's actually a good idea to see the film first and then admire how scorsese visualised it.. a real gem..

no doubts :)

fine, I'll think about those problems and try to make my talk interesting and appealing, maybe a bit peculiar, since last time they didn't really want to talk about old age, so now it might be even harder, just because young people, in my opinion, are not really into history, and they barely know about those things that occured... but I'll do my best!
well, I can always use music to make it clear and understandable, I guess everyone knows Sunday Bloody Sunday ;)

and oh, well, I haven't seen that one, actually tried to find it online yesterday, but couldn't.

#34, by Cottage, on 31 October 2011, 7:45 pm

do it then..:) i'd like to hear what you've got ready on wednesday.. possible?
and don't bother downloading 'the age of innocence' as i've got it on dvd.. so if you're patient enough and can wait, you'll get it in a couple of days..;)

#38, by Cottage, on 22 November 2011, 11:16 pm

1) it's not really difficult.. just come round and treat yourself to a thursday evening in bytow.. actually, you should do it - why not?;) i've been thinking of creating and uploading a voc sheet for 'fight club' as i reckon this one's really packed with lots of references of different kind and it could really help the guys who haven't seen it to understand the plot to a greater extent.. will you make this possible?;)
2) i can't remember if you came;) to see 'happiness', xnefrex, but i reckon (the word of the comment:)) that having seen that one 'fight club' seems just and only controversial and thought-provoking at times..;)

#39, by PauLina, on 23 November 2011, 6:47 pm

Helena Bonham Carter!! UGH! I'd love to be there too! Why do you have this meeting in the middle of week? Why not f.g. on friday? :P

#40, by xnefrex, on 23 November 2011, 10:01 pm

I actually did, I guess everyone remembers that obese guy who did some controversial and generally disgusting things :P and in fact, I overreacted, but Fight Club is one of those films that I can watch 10 times a day and I never get bored of it :) even though I didn't understand it for the first time, but everything is truly amazing - cast, plot, characters. However, it's not my favourite film, but still, everyone should see it, sooner or later!

#41, by Cottage, on 23 November 2011, 10:13 pm

obese guy? he's rather slim but definitely slimy.. would you like to help with the vocabulary sheet, xnefrex?

#68, by xnefrex, on 15 February 2012, 9:31 pm

One of my favourite films, I have seen it so many times that I can't even remember! The thing that I like the most about it is that it seems to be a comedy at first, but then it shows some kind of tragedy and makes people think about many different stuff. Worth watching for sure!

#90, by Hania, on 14 September 2012, 9:34 pm

As I said today, great choice & perfect timing for this one.
Let me find 'Mrs. Robinson' on YouTube and I'll try to explain why.

I've just finished reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey' written by E L James. If you haven't heard about it, you will. I believe it will be (or already is?) as popular as 'Twilight' series, which it was inspired by.
(Warning: may contain spoilers!)
The main character is Christian Grey, a huge BDSM freak.
There is a moment, when he talks about his past and first lover. Because there is big difference in age between them (she was as old as his parents were), Anastasia, his girlfriend/lover (their relationship is difficult to explain, because it changes over the time), calls her 'Mrs. Robinson'.
It gets much funnier when he claims that she showed him the whole BDSM world...

And now I have a opportunity to get to know the origins of it. Yay! ;)

#91, by KamilKarm, on 16 September 2012, 4:11 pm

BDSM? Jeez, it must be sick.
You read books in Twilight type? Did you enjoy Twilight? I'm kinda surprised.

edit: just checked net and ofc, there's going to be a movie in one year based on this book u mentioned

The last modification on 16 September 2012, 4:14 pm, by KamilKarm

#92, by Hania, on 17 September 2012, 2:07 am

(Brace yourselves, this one is quite long. I couldn't help it.)

BDSM is not sick. The basic rule is safety, then pleasure. Just because it's weird, it doesn't mean it's morbid (what a beautiful word, by the way ;)). You don't want to do something - it's fine; you thought you'd like to do something, but you've changed your mind - use the safeword and everything ends immediately.
Sickness starts when you do something pleasant for you, but without the others' permission (like rape) and you enjoy it.
It's not like I'm into BDSM, I just wanted to make it clear ;)

The book wasn't sick either. (Or I'm already depraved. Nevermind.)
I've read it only because almost everyone in my part of Internet were talking about it (the rest will do it soon, I'm certain about it now) and I found it in the bookstore. I learned over a dozen hours after buying the book that it was based on a 'Twilight' fan-fic.

I've read 'Twilight' (only the first one, not the whole saga), but I didn't enjoy it. Actually, it was the worst book I've ever read - poorly-written and, my God, what she had done with the vampires?! I don't usually read such books, unless I have to make a point in discussion - I like to get to know thing before I'll criticize it. I've seen all movies made so far - just to be able to say 'it sucks not 'cause I say so, but because...' ;)

Can't wait to see the film, yet the cast is a big unknown for me.

See you on Thursday :)

#93, by KamilKarm, on 17 September 2012, 9:22 pm

Well, don't get me wrong. I do have nothing against people who enjoy bdsm. I just think brains of people who like to get punishment during sex are in some way broken, I mean I guess they're in bad condition in some way at least. Seriously, some choke holding, hitting (i mean hitting, not slapping) to get sexual satisfation seems to be kind of sick to me.

I've just got back from Gdańsk and saw many bilboards, posters about this book/movie, whatever. It says only these two words to me: don't watch (or don't read). Btw if it was Polish movie, I bet creators would say "it breakes taboo, it's great, go watch it and learn people!" (i guess it's Polnglish, but not sure how to say 'breaks taboo' right). Yeah, I judge books by their covers.

#94, by Hania, on 19 September 2012, 4:20 pm

Oh, Kamil... live and let die/live (delete as appropriate) ;)

I guess it's like doing sports... some need only jogging, riding a bike, swimming, while the others love to feel the adrenaline rush and do skydiving :) I believe there is a place for all of us.

I don't know if these books are breaking any taboos, I've read worse things on Internet when I was 15. But maybe it's just me.
We all do judge books by its covers, movies by its posters and that's why the authors pay so much attention to it. There is nothing wrong with that, of course if you know what are you looking for ;)
Well, you should read 'Fifty Shades...' not for the taboo, but to get out of your comfort zone. You'd be suprised what is out there... ;)

#95, by KamilKarm, on 19 September 2012, 9:58 pm

I woudn't call this 'comfort zone' and also think I'd sooner be disgusted than surprised.

#96, by Hania, on 21 September 2012, 1:19 am

Well, I'm not going to force you ;) It's definitely not a 'must-read' nor a compulsory book, as the ones at school.
But I guess it's not a time&place to discuss this. :)

Take care and see you soon.

'Casablanca'? Seriously?
When I can't come round?...
You've gotta make me a copy! ;)

Anyway, have fun on Thursday. I'll be watching 'The Silence of the Lambs' at that time :)

#102, by Cottage, on 20 November 2012, 4:24 pm

it'd be illegal.. are u encouraging me to break the law? u should know that no teacher is capable of this..;)

#103, by Hania, on 20 November 2012, 7:53 pm

Of course I'm not encouraging you to break the law!
I'm just looking for any possibilities to watch this piece of art I've never came across. But since I don't know when I'll fix my time table, so I can come back home more regularly, I don't want to lent it from you and keep it forever. Someone might like to watch it as well ;)
If it was on sites like iplex.pl, where you can watch movies for free (after ads at the beginning and then in the middle of a movie), I would do it.

And yeah, no teacher is capable.. that's why I'm not taking my pen-drive for classes tomorrow, because I'm not getting a scanned version of a book we're supposed to read right from my literature teacher... ;) Not to mention who actually suggested it...

You know, sharing is caring :)

#104, by Cottage, on 25 November 2012, 10:22 am

seen on filmweb that u enjoyed 'the silence of the lambs' as well as 'casablanca'.. i must say that now's time to watch 'hannibal' to find out what great delicacy dr lecter enjoys best..;)

#105, by Hania, on 26 November 2012, 8:34 pm

As soon as I read 'The Silence of the Lambs' by Thomas Harris, I'm going to catch up with all Hannibal's movies.
But I need to be in the right mood. Maybe after I donate some blood... ;)

A very nice movie. I really enjoyed Chaplin's role as a caricature of Hitler. For me the best shot of this film was how he juggled the earth globe. It was very funny. I think that this film significantly contributed to changing the mood during World War II.

#150, by izabela_g, on 29 March 2020, 7:19 pm

I don’t like old movies, but this one was fine. I liked the character Hannah the most who was able to oppose the stormtroopers. Hannah showed that the frying pan isn’t just for frying. It can also be a good weapon.

#151, by Karolina, on 30 March 2020, 9:56 am

The best scene in this film is the dance of Hitler with the globe, which suddenly bursts when he is in his arms. This is a prophetic scene that symbolizes that Hitler will never gain power over the world. I don't know the second movie with such a smart ending.Great movie!

#152, by julia.a, on 30 March 2020, 3:35 pm

It was a quite nice movie. I really liked the moment, when the Jewish barber started to shave Hannah. I also liked her, as she was the only one able to talk back to the stormtroopers.

#153, by weronika_k, on 30 March 2020, 5:04 pm

,,The Great Dictator’’ was the first movie with Charles Chaplin I’ve ever seen. The sense of humor is really specific and unusual these days, but I liked it. I enjoyed the most barber’s final speech as a dictator. He called people to respect each other, regardless of their nationality or skin color. The audience’s reaction was so unexpected for me. This move is definitely worth watching!

#154, by Binio, on 30 March 2020, 10:24 pm

It is a great movie. Chaplin's role here is rally good, I haven't watched any of his films before but it encouraged me to do it. My favorite scene is when Hannah beats stormtroopers with frying pan (frying pan is a overpowered weapon), and the last speech was beautiful, it was really nice and funny to see guy who is a Hitler in this movie saying those things.

#155, by Julia512, on 30 March 2020, 10:25 pm

Well at first I thought that it would be two long hours but I have to admit I was wrong. I actually enjoyed the movie. My favorite scene was a little flight upside down. The way they showed the conflict between Hynkel and Napaloni was great too. For a comedy movie the ending was surprisingly really sad and touching. People knew that what was happening in their country was bad, but they were too scared to resist...

#156, by OliwiaS., on 31 March 2020, 3:54 pm

It's not often that I get a chance to watch an old movie, but they have their charm and "The Great Dictator" was no different. Charlie Chaplin has his spark that got me hooked on this movie. I was surprised to see such good special effects for those times. I loved the vegetarian pun during the conversation the barber had with the pilot he saved years ago. After nearly getting hanged by the stormtroopers.

#157, by aleksander_p, on 31 March 2020, 11:43 pm

"The Great Dictator" was the first old movie I've ever seen. Despite the fact that almost 80 years have passed since its premiere, the film is still relevant. It shows that we must reckon with everyone, even those whose ideas seem irriational...

#158, by OliwierRich, on 31 March 2020, 11:49 pm

Personally, I really like this movie. Maybe it is black and white film, but it doesn't bothered me to have fun. My favourite scene was, when Charlie Chaplin got lost in a fog and started walking with the enemies. I have learned a lot from this film too ,especially from the ending. I give 10 points of Richter scale to this film:)

In my opinion it is a very good film, and the way the story is presented determines the genius of the film. For making it almost 80 years ago, and it can make you laugh. The viewer observes the events from two perspectives that merge into one, excellent ending. However, the level of humor in the middle of the movie is changing.

#160, by Cottage, on 03 April 2020, 10:40 am

It was a very nice movie. I really liked the character of Jennifer who didn’t follow the rules and script of Pleasantville. This behaviour brought irreversible consequences that changed the lives of not only Jennifer and David but also Pleasantville residents for better.

#162, by weronika_k, on 07 April 2020, 6:35 pm

This move is very unusual, but it also shows timeless values. The siblings completely changed the life of the Pleasantville residents and they showed them how the real life looks like. The funniest moment was, when George came back home and he was more worried about the lack of the dinner than about the disappearance of his wife. I highly recommend it!

#163, by Cottage, on 07 April 2020, 10:28 pm

glad u liked it... i watched 'pleasantville' on its release and it stole my heart... all those years later my thinking is that it beautifully shows that there are shades and tints, and that nothing's just black and white... onscreen humanity...

#164, by Ania, on 10 April 2020, 2:22 pm

That’s a swell movie! I really enjoy every well-made movie set in the 50s or 60s. Especially when it’s professionally done. For example all the outfits and history appropriate hairstyles, but also you could feel the spirit of this decade. On top of the wonderful storyline with deeper meaning the thing, I appreciate the most was special effects. The work they’ve done is just phenomenal - a black-and-white world with a mix of colors. Even some which I’ve never heard about like vermilion, puce, chartreuse, umber or oxblood. I highly recommend watching the “Pleasantville”.

#165, by sszmidt, on 10 April 2020, 10:18 pm

For me this is a mediocre movie, not a amovie that i will return to. The concept of the film is something new but it wasn't expanded. It would be the best if viewer had to think about why it happened, not told during the trial why it was happening. It's not the best and not the worst film, you could watch it, but certainly there are better movies.

#166, by Julia512, on 10 April 2020, 11:44 pm

Lovely story. At the beginning i felt so sorry for Pleasantville's inhabitants. Just trapped in a loop. So I was really glad to see that their life become more colorful. Figuratively and literally. I also liked the transformation of the Tobey Maguire's character. From nerdy boy to a man who finally stands up for himself.

#167, by karolek_24, on 15 April 2020, 7:39 pm

In the movie were presented two worlds black and colorful. I have never met this. This is amazing. I think this effect was to show a big difference between people living 50 years ago. People were shown as stupid. The siblings move to the world ,,Pleasantville" during quarrel. Their adventures was very fascinating.

Ghost Dog isn't interesting film in my opinion. It is boring and monotonous, but try show the main character as a human with principles. There are some jokesand some action, but if you like if the movie is suspenseful it is not film for you. I do not recommend this movie.

#170, by alice.ds, on 17 April 2020, 11:38 am

I really enjoyed the movie. At first I thought that it would be just another stupid film, but the characters proved me wrong. The story of Pleasentville's residents was weird at first yet very interesting. We could see how the characters changed, so the viewers were never bored. I really enjoyed watching how many not-so-young people react to changes because that's something that is true nowadays. I thoroughly recommend this movie to anyone who's currently bored and is looking for a film to watch.

It was a great movie. I very like Walt Kowalski who says what he thinks. I like how he defends his neighbors, although he didn’t like them at first.

#176, by weronika_k, on 21 April 2020, 8:55 pm

This move shows how violent and cruel world can be. Of course there are a lot funny moments like scene in a the hairdresser’s. I admire the most change of Walt’s behavior and his sacrifice for the kids. The ending was so smart and moving.

#177, by alice.ds, on 21 April 2020, 10:11 pm

I really enjoyed the movie, it was intense. I love the friendship between the characters and the way the developed. The ending was really sad but i couldn't imagine it differently.

#178, by w_m_b, on 22 April 2020, 4:37 pm

This film was great. I really liked the character development of Walt Kowalski, his relationship with Thao, Sue and their family was amazing. Walt was caring and helpful, he was a good role model for Thao. The endind was sad, but actually when I started watch the film I couldn't imagine that the ending would be happy.

#179, by patrycjaa, on 22 April 2020, 4:37 pm

The film in an unusual way touches the problems of people of all ages - from intolerance to troubles of young people who without consequences abandon weapons, drugs. All of this presented with an interesting fiction film, so the film touches on difficult subjects, it is very pleasant to watch.

Great movie! I really liked the relationship of Mr. Kowalsky's and the barber, and Mr. Kowsalsky's and Thao of course. The scene with "fake pistol" was the best!

#182, by swm4r, on 22 April 2020, 5:47 pm

Not exactly my sense of humor, but I liked the movie and the plot. Final speech was awesome!

#183, by jul.j, on 22 April 2020, 8:58 pm

At first, I was sceptical about this movie, but it turned out to be OK. I'm glad that Mr. Kowalski changed his behavior and he and Thao became friends. They both learned something thanks to their relationship. And it all started because of Mr. Kowalski's Gran Torino...

#184, by martyna_231, on 22 April 2020, 10:49 pm

Actually I don't like dramas but this film was quite good. It showed an amazing friendship where both sides were ready for sacrifices. Mr. Kowalski finally didn't feel alone, thanks to his friend - Thao and his sister. He understood what is really important in life and he's changed. That, what he did at the end of the movie was admirable. I really like it!

Living in such a neighborhood must be hell. It's hard to even imagine when you live in a quiet area...Anyway, it was nice to see how Walt cares for these kids. Unfortunately, I don't like the ending. His sacrifice seems noble, but for me it was pretty much stupid. It was not a dead end, they could have looked for another way...

First of all, I don’t think the movie is in everyone’s taste mainly due to racist humor and some jokes. If someone is sensitive I would probably not recommend watching this film. I was surprised by the fact that Asian people weren’t geeky, smart, elegant, rich and straight-A’s students, which are the stereotypes that are often used in the movies. I really like how they showed the realistic life of Hmong people. Society should grow more open to one another and despite some differences understand, respect each other and just simply be kind. I need to say, that I can’t think of any actor, who could play Walt better than how Clint Eastwood did. The character shows that every tough-looking guy is a sweet and lovely softie inside. Kowalski eventually reveled his big, hurting and bruised, but hidden deep inside heart full of love. Some of the scenes I like the most are the one with the barber and Walt’s confession to the priest (who kind of looks like an eight-year-old to me). Kowalski admits kissing another woman and not paying taxes, but he doesn’t mention all the threats with guns he did. The ending well… It showed me, a thing I knew before but I think is valuable and worth remembering: Family, you can’t change that you’re related to that people, that’s simply how things are, but FRIENDS are the family you choose completely by yourself.

This movie shows that strenght is in the group. It was good although I'm not a rugby fan.

#192, by Ania, on 05 May 2020, 3:07 pm

Very important movie. To fully understand it, the viewer should know at least some basic info about history or situation in South Africa and apartheid. As the line from the movie says: “The rainbow nation starts here. Reconciliation starts here.” when Mandela become president. I fell like it sums the movie perfectly.
I’ve watched Invictus before and this time something else impressed and intrigued me. I paid more attention to the relationships between characters. The whole process of growth of each character was incredible. I don’t necessarily mean two main roles, but the supporting ones. For example, the friendship that formed between the bodyguards of Nelson Mandela. I think this showed the actual kind of respect, forgiveness, and friendships that happened in South Africa at that time. What stood out for me the most in the movie were poems. Especially Nelson Mandela’s favorite poem -“Invictus” (which means unconquered in Latin) written by Ernest Henley.

#193, by izabela_g, on 05 May 2020, 4:36 pm

It’s a very nice movie. I liked the way of thinking of the president who tried to unite all people. The president's bodyguards at the end of the movie amused me the most.

The story in this movie seems to be impossible and I still can’t believe it happened for real. This movie shows that forgiveness and faith in people are the key to the success. ,,Invictus” proofs that people can cooperate if they really want to. Nelson Mandela and rugby definitely became a symbol of united RPA. Great movie!

#196, by Julia512, on 09 May 2020, 5:19 pm

When I watched for the first time I was totally in shock because of the ending. It was like I was watching a very strange, remarkable story but it kinda turn out to be a lie. And i love it for that. Second time i was more focused on finding the clues. Feeling how could i miss something first time. Well, I still fell like I didn't catch everything. It doesn't change the fact that it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. For me this is a story about self destruction. Edward Norton gives a spectacular performance as a narrator. I felt sorry for his character which seems to be doomed to failure. After all, you can't really run from yourself, can you?

#197, by izabela_g, on 10 May 2020, 1:33 pm

Loved the film! I'm glad that Phil found a way to get out of the cycle and didn't get stuck in the endless nightmare. Really entertaining film thet answers one of these "What if..." questions everyone had asked themselves.

I really enjoyed this movie. Phil’s aversion to loved by everyone Groundhog Day was very amusing. The best moment was when he understood that he can do whatever he wants to without any consequences. This movie shows that if we want to change something, we should start from ourselves.

Lovely movie! Nice main character development. He was such a jerk at the beginning. After watching the movie, I would kinda love to experience something similar myself. Could be fun but unfortunately it would be a nightmare in the long run.

Great film! interesting idea and color effects, it's "pleasant" to watch, but also tells about some important stuff. My favourite quotes:

-People change.
-Can they change back?
-I don't know, I think it's harder.

-I did the slut thing, David. It got kinda old.

-I'm 40 years old. I mean it's not supposed to be like this.
-It's not supposed to be anything. Hold still.

You’ll be enchanted by this movie! Even though some scenes are so repetitive that at some point you can be sick and tired of them, the film is really worth watching. Each of us has that special day which we would like to experience once again. What if, as in Phil's case, it was a Groundhog Day? Well, he also wondered why it must be February the 2nd in disliked by him town – Punxsutawney.
I enjoyed watching him changing his attitude. We could easily see him having fun with repetitive day, but there were also helplessness and frustration. Oh and don’t forget the romantic phase. All in all, it ended perfectly with happy ending with Phil being the kindest person ever and with numerous new skills. I was so joyful when he said to Rita: “Let’s live here”. That was such a lovely moment and brief of relief for Phil, he could finally start tomorrow. I’m glad he truly learned to loved that town and knew every detail about each citizen. What a useful prowess, don’t you think?

It is a nice movie. Despite the uncomplicated plot, it delights, moves, sometimes entertains. It is well played, directed and photographed. Introduces the viewer to a calm, stabilized world, is full of reflection on the passing of time, the meaning of existence. He also talks about determination in pursuit of goals despite many opposites of fate.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this movie. It's a nice story and somehow beautiful in its simplicity but the plot was way too slow for me. However, I liked this one scene with deer lady. I love this kind of being dramatic.

This film is brilliant in its simplicity. It releases a great deal of joy mixed with sadness. This film is perfect for children and adults. All the solutions contained in this animation hit the nail on the head, showing the human psyche in the form of a great metaphor.

The movie was really enjoyable, in two words - warmth and simplicity. I would never believe in so much kindness from strangers that Alvin Straight's received if I wouldn’t have known it was a true story from 1994. At first, I didn’t understand why he chose to go from Iowa to Wisconsin on a lawnmower. There were other ways too, but I quickly realized, that the point was that it was his own journey, he just needed to do it that way, no another. He was faced with a choice between aging at home or having one more trip, the last taste of freedom, and see Lyle.
The film is simple, yes, but it doesn’t mean it can’t have some humor in it. My favorite parts are: the Deer Lady and Dorothy’s line: What's the number for 911?
I like the way of learning about Alvin’s past throughout the movie when he was sharing his memories with just meet strangers. Also, the viewer gets two hours of shots of rural America as an addition.

I feel like the biggest lesson “Straight Story” is teaching is about siblings. It is mentioned many times throughout the film. We could see Alvin talking to The Olsen twins ( I don’t know why I expected the mechanics to be the real Olsen twins) about how important they are for each other and he told them not to argue and just get along.
The quote about Alvin’s children sums that meaning perfectly and can make some viewers shed a tear:
“I'd give each one of 'em a stick and, one for each one of 'em, then I'd say, 'You break that.' Course they could real easy. Then I'd say, 'Tie them sticks in a bundle and try to break that.' Course they couldn't. Then I'd say, 'That bundle... that's family.”

Lovely movie! It shows that we can let ourselves to be sad and there is nothing wrong about it. Being always happy is impossible and for me kinda fake. I just love how emotional movies for children are(my wet pillow proves that). For kids it's just fun to watch but i feel like the moral is for older viewers.

Inside Out is one of those Disney Pixar movies to which I come back with the sentiment, cause it’s such an emotional rollercoaster. I really enjoy watching this movie with someone who has not seen it yet, because you can see them in a whole range of emotions.

This film is phenomenally constructed. It is distinguished by a wonderful and clever production idea. It is difficult to make a film, directed mainly to children, which is dealing with psychology, and the creators managed to do it in an ideal, understandable, and simple way.

Inside Out, in my opinion, has a great educational value on children. It brilliantly explains such complicated thought processes. Thanks to this, kids understand more and can explain their own emotions and even mechanisms of how the brain works, such as forgetting memories or remembering specific events with an emotional tinge.

The fact that it is branded as a kids' movie does not mean that the film is trivial and can only interest a younger audience. Adults were not omitted by the creators from the audience, for example, the subconsciousness mentioned in the film or the moral coming from it.

The film is made exactly on point and can melt people's hearts.
Definitely one of my favorite animated films. – Really worth watching!

The plot was kinda clear but I really enjoyed this movie. This film calls for a bit of patience from the viewer but proves to be extremely touching. Especially moving was the bar scene with two veterans discussing the events of fifty years ago and how it still affected their current lives. What I also loved in this movie was the fact it was emotional but also humorous though. Its also very pleasant to see a film where the characters are really friendly and polite. The cinematography is magnificent.

Powerful and moving with multiple intertwined threads and themes. The documentary uses Salgado's majestic photographs interspersing them with visits to previously unrecorded locations, including old color footage, using his voice and conversations. Salgado is a very special person with a remarkable gift. To watch this documentary is an educationally experience. It’s very interesting to see the photographer's life work unfold and the horrors he's seen from traveling to Rwanda, Ethiopia, or his beloved home of Brazil. It has a bitter taste because it focuses on the real problems of the world.

I watched it as a kid for the first time and I didn't remember much. Just the picture of parents turned into pigs has stucked in my mind. Later I watched it a few times when I was older and I enjoyed a way more. I love the plot, all this Japanese folklore creatures and the music. Ghibli really knows how to made a good soundtrack. The name of life is such a calming and simply song. Btw have you heard about the prostitution theory in this movie? Make a lot sense for me. Anyway, for me Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are the best from this studio.

I didn't liked the movie, the plot was way to slow for me. I think I'm not patient enough for this kind of movies, I'm more used to action ones.

I liked the movie, however I have a lot of questions after watching it. I feel like tey didn't really explained anything about the world in movie. I know it's supposed to be mysterious, but I like when every mystery is explained at the end.

After everything Salgado had experienced in Ethiopia, Rwanda or during Yugoslavian war, the fact that he turned his interest towards nature makes me wonder if it is a sign of his indomitable spirit or simply a faint and a little naive faith in humanity. After all, "we humans are terrible animals"
